Harry Redknapp sentenced to six months
in Prison
The Spurs chief was tipped as a future England manager
Harry Redknapp the manager of Tottenham Footbal Club has been sensationaly sentenced to 6 months in prison combined with a yet undisclosed fine.
He was convicted of receiving secret payments from former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric while he was manager at the south coast club.
The Tottenham boss only revealed he had the Monaco-based account after being asked by the Premier League's Quest inquiry, Southwark Crown Court heard.
Mr Mandaric and Mr Redknapp denied the charges of cheating the public revenue. However, the jury disagreed and returned a guilty verdict in less than 2 hours.
Judge Anthony Leonard, had discretion on whether to impose a fine or a custodial sentence. However, on summing up he blasted Mr Redknapp's flagrant and criminal flouting of UK law and imposed the six month sentence.
Jurors were told secret payments were made to Mr Redknapp's Monaco bank account in the name of his dog and that almost £850,000 was unaccounted for. Breaking reports suggest that three further men may be awaiting possible criminal charges in connection with this case.
Secret sources reveal their names to be Mark Shields, Gary Wilson and Adrian Dugdale. They were allegedly involved in supplying female and male escorts to HMRC agents in return for overlooking irregularities in Mr Redknapp's tax records.
This throws not only his current post at Tottenham into doubt, but almost certainly rules him out of the running to become a future England Manager. A press conference with his barrister, John Kelsey-Fry QC, is scheduled for 2pm today
